The Stoughton Public Library is pleased to give away 50 free Madison Children's Museum passes starting January 2, 2025! Each pass is good for one free admission. We would like to express gratitude to the anonymous community donor who provided the funds for us to purchase these passes. We also thank the Madison Children's Museum for selling us admission passes at a discount so we can distribute them to our patrons for free.
Please visit the Circulation desk near the library entrance to pick up your free pass. In order to receive a pass:
- A child must be between the ages of 1-11.
- A child must be a Stoughton Public Library patron.
- Each child must show us their valid South Central Library System library card. Don't have one? Sign up online or visit the Children's or Adult Information Desk.
- Once you have your pass, be sure to visit the museum before the pass expires on December 31, 2025.
Visit the museum's website for details such as hours, directions, and parking.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the program work?
We will begin giving out park passes on January 2, 2025. Each pass will grant one Stoughton Public Library patron ages 1-11 free admission to the Madison Children's Museum.
Why don't you give out passes for children under age 1, or over age 11?
Children under age 1 already receive free admission to the museum. Since the museum appeals more to younger children, and since we have a limited number of passes, we decided to limit them to ages 11 and younger.
The free passes are wonderful, but my family will still find it expensive to pay for tickets for the adults and children ages 12+ in our family so we can all attend together. Is there any way you can give us passes for the whole family?
Unfortunately, no, but the museum does offer $1 Access Admission to qualifying individuals and families. If your family participates in a program such as HeadStart, SNAP, WIC, or many more, you may be eligible. Visit the museum's website or contact them if you have further questions. Please also note that the museum offers free admission on Thursday nights from 4-8pm, which may be a good option to keep costs down for a larger group.
Can I request passes for my entire daycare class or other group of children I work with, if I show a library card for each child?
Due to the limited number of passes, we will only be issuing these to individual families, not to larger groups of children such as classes. We advise you to reach out to the museum to discuss donated or discounted passes for your larger groups.
Do I have to return the pass? Is it reusable?
No. Each pass will be used one time and turned in to the museum for admission when you visit. You do not need to return passes to the library.
Do I have to do anything else after I use the pass?
No, but if you enjoyed using your pass or have any feedback, feel free to contact the library at storef [at] stolib.org (storef[at]stolib[dot]org) or call 608-873-6281.
What if my child's library card is expired?
Each child's card has an adult parent or guardian name associated with it. If the adult's address has changed recently, please bring proof of current address with you so we can update your child's card. If it hasn't changed, we can update it simply by reviewing the contact information.
Can my child get a museum pass if Stoughton is not their home library?
Due to the limited number of passes, we are reserving these for Stoughton Public Library patrons only. If you have questions, please ask at the Circulation Desk.
Will you offer these passes every year?
We are very grateful to receive donations from the Friends of the Library, community organizations, and patrons, which allow us to offer great above-and-beyond programs and opportunities such as this one. As long as participation remains robust and we have the funding to purchase the discounted passes, we anticipate continuing this program every year. The best way you can express your interest is by picking up a pass and letting us know you enjoyed it by emailing storef [at] stolib.org (storef[at]stolib[dot]org) or dropping off a note at the library.
